The capital of Zululand is Ulundi. Home to the burial sites of the Zulu kings, the Makhosini Valley of the Kings, Ulundi upholds a rich historical and cultural heritage. Ulundi is also well-known for its Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. The Game Reserve is famous for the rescue and conservation of the white rhino from the brink of extinction. Ulundi also has fantastic forest trails and is an excellent choice for adventure lovers. Other Zululand reserves like the Ndumo, Ithala and Mkuzi are also popular.
The Greater St. Lucia Wetland area is another popular tourist destination. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Wetland region is for people who like to spend time around rainforests, lakes and beautiful unspoiled beaches.
Zululand has gorgeous beaches where sunbathing and water sports can be thoroughly enjoyed. Swimming, snorkeling and diving, including Whitewater River rafting, bush tours, deep-sea fishing, and whale and dolphin watching can also be enjoyed. For a little historical flavor, the Isandlwana and Rorkes’ Drift battlefields, museums and memorials, and Zulu tribal villages can be explored.
