The Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of the island and welcomes countless visitors every year. Santa Cruz sports an impressive smatter of classy restaurants, bars, and cafe-lined boulevards and superfine town architecture. The Puerto de la Cruz, nestled at the mouth of the Orotava Valley, is Tenerife’s oldest resort and is a spectacle of hotels, shops and other tourist amenities set along tree-lined avenues in the northern regions of the island. The south is the hub of beach holiday makers, and Playa de las Americas with its swanky resorts, hotels and nightclubs, is primarily the focus of young vacationers between 18 and 30 years. Farther in its suburbs are the purpose-built resorts of Costa Adeje and Playa Paraisa, and the Los Cristianos, which was originally a fishing village and is still manifold calmer and traditional in comparison to the boisterous Playa de las Americas. The area of Los Gigantes, with its uniquely shaped majestic cliffs sprouting from the Atlantic waters, has the best weather in Tenerife and attracts a swarm of vacationers.

Water sports are exceedingly popular in Tenerife. Wind conditions, encouraged by the offshore breezes, is perfect for parascending, windsurfing and jet skiing. Scuba diving is Tenerife’s major attraction, as is sport fishing and boat trip excursions to spot whales and dolphins. Tenerife is also distinctive in its offering of unique and exciting rides like BOB diving, which is an underwater submarine ride. Most upscale resorts have excellent availability of water sport gears, as do facilities for island excursions and land sports like volcano or deep ravine hikes, bungee-jumping, balloon rides, golf, tennis and bowling, and adventure park trips for children.
