One of the most attractive towns of Algrave, Tavira is popular for its historical architectures. There are about 37 churches in Tavira, making it popular as Town of Churches. Situated in eastern region of Algrave city, Tavira sits in south coast of Portugal. Photogenic town of Tavira reminds of medieval ages as you will find whitewashed stone houses with gothic windows, gardens, renaissance architectures, riverside mansions and ruins of castles here. After the destroying earthquake of 1755 in Algrave, most of the architectures in Tavira were rebuilt.

Tavira is flanking on both banks of River Gialo and is linked by a seven arched Roman bridge. Beautiful beaches along the coast are easily accessible from Tavira. Igreja da Santa Maria and Igreja da Misericordia are two mentionable ancient churches in Tavira reflecting traditional design and tile work. There are operational fishing ports in Tavira, so you have great chances of enjoying fresh sea food and fish dishes in local restaurants. Vibrant street markets of Tavira offer variety of craftwork and local ceramics. Apart from shopping centres, Tavira markets have several economical cafes and eateries. Tipping is customary in Tavira as other parts of Portugal. Service tax is not included in the bill and you are expected to tip 10 percent of billing amount. Tipping is also appreciated by hotel attendants and maids. Though tipping cab drivers is not a common practice but you can provide 10% of fare as tip if you liked their service. You can also round off taxi fare and additional amount would be tip for driver.
