Siracusa or Syracuse in Italian, is a city in south of Italy and the capital of province of Syracuse. It has a very rich Greek history, amphitheatres, culture, architecture and it is also the birth place of Archimedes. The city is somewhere around 2,700 hundred years old. It is located to the south east of the Sicily islands. It has been described as one of the greatest Greek cities and also is called the most beautiful of all the Greek cities. Siracusa Has Rich History
It was founded in 733 BC. Since it had salt marsh nearby, it was earlier called as Sirako. It has been ruled by many famous Greek rulers and was the Roman Capital of the Sicilian Region. It was ruled by Muslim rulers for two centuries so you can see some Islamic structures and mosques with churches and cathedrals.
The city was rebuilt after it was destroyed in the seventeenth century. The city gives expression of the art of the south Italy & remains intact even after the bombing by German forces in 1943.
