Side Attractions and Activities
A city where the ancient co-exists with the modern, Side is an interesting option for vacationing in the Mediterranean. Side holidays have a plethora of attractions and activities for the discerning tourist. An overview is given here:
- Historic Side: Once a hub of trade and civilization, the city of Side is abound with historical sites and monuments. Even the old city walls date back to around 200 BC. The temples of Athena and Apollo, the huge amphitheatre and public baths are some of the highlights thereof. Side also has a well-maintained museum.
- Nature: The verdant Taurus Mountains form a backdrop to Side, making the foothills and forests great way to explore the wonders of nature. The waterfalls and caves provide opportunities to undertake horse riding and hiking. And if you are interested, you can go for quad bikes, jeep safaris, rafting and skiing (skiing is available in the winter months only).
- Boat trip to Manavgat: Though Manavgat is a holiday destination itself, sailing trips to the gurgling Manavgat waterfalls on wooden boats is an adventure of its own kind. One can have swimming sessions here, as well as drinks amid the tea gardens.
- Shopping: The shops and stalls in the narrow winding streets of the old town are best for bargaining in jewellery, leather items, handbags, spices and carpets. But be wary of fake brands here.
- Nightlife: Side offers loud pubs as well as quiet romantic bars to relax in according to your mood and preference.
