Sanibel Island is located on the Gulf coast of Florida, just offshore of Fort Myers. Captiva Island is located in Lee County in southwest Florida, just offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. While Sanibel Island is close to 12 miles long and three miles wide, Captiva Island is four miles long and half a mile wide. Although these statistics give the feeling that the islands are “tiny”, there is a whole new world to be discovered on Sanibel & Captiva Islands!
General Etiquette in Sanibel & Captiva Islands
Sanibel & Captiva Islands take pride in keeping their beaches immaculate. To maintain this standard, general etiquette rules have to be followed. Pets on Sanibel Island must be leashed, and should be cleaned up after. Captiva beaches do not allow pets. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited from November till May. Open fires and collecting of live shells are not allowed.
