Quarteira Holidays

Quarteira is a fishing village which lies in the centre of the Algarve coast in Portugal. It is often referred to as the ugly sister of Vilamoura, which is a popular tourist resort very close to Quarteira. However, over the past decade or so, Quarteira has carved out an identity of its own. With its beautiful lined promenade and a bustling nightlife, it is a perfect place for a vacation. And if one thinks monetarily, Quarteira is a much better option than its more famous cousin, Vilamoura. Quarteira is more tourist- friendly. Chances of being taken for a ride here are less as compared to Vilamoura. Quarteira also offers a better chance of experiencing the Portuguese culture, which it has managed to retain despite the recent developments.

Quaint and Chaotic Quarteira
Quarteira has a laidback charm to the place. But of late, a number of high rise buildings have come up in the place due to its growing popularity. Despite this, there is a unique blend of modernity and culture that one gets to see at Quarteira. The beaches here are not rocky, which offers an opportunity to soak in the sun all day long. There is also the capital city of Algarve, Faro nearby to explore. Faro has a lot of history to boast about. The 13th century cathedral here with cobbled streets and the Ria Formosa allow one to get up, close and personal with Portugal.

Tipping is a common custom in Quarteira and is not included in the bill. The general norm is to pay a 10% tip in restaurants. No tip is paid for taxis but the rounding up of the taxi fare is a common practice. No tipping in involved in pubs unless served by a hostess.
