Puerto Rico’s beach was originally without sand, and therefore, not the quintessential spot for beachfront holidays. However, Puerto Rico’s amazing beauty, the lush gardens nestled at the foot of towering cliffs, attracted many international investors to develop the humble fishing port into a lively resort. Golden sand was imported from the Sahara Desert and many new hotels and apartments, restaurants, bars, and shopping centers were built; the existing were developed to include international amenities. Today, San Juan enjoys the best beaches at Isla verde and Condado. Outside San Jun area, there are several self-contained luxury resorts, particularly on the east side of Puerto Rico. Around Puerto Rico town, you will also come across rural inns or paradores sponsored by the government, budget apartments, and numerable big hotels close to the beach or an inland attraction. A little away from the beach there is a beautiful tropical garden. The area is quieter than the beach and there are two lidos (outdoor swimming areas) that are perfect for committed sun soakers.
