Puerto de Santiago is a peaceful resort with a distinct Canarian flavor. If you are going there with young children in tow, the resort is not the ideal place to spend a family holiday. Partly because it is very quiet, and partly because most of the area is very hilly and there are not many interesting places within easy walking distance. The resort is perfect for honeymooners and elders, especially if the latter does not indulge in too much walking or sightseeing, because then the volcanic terrain can be extremely trying. The Loro Parque is located several miles from the resort, and although is an exciting place to visit, takes long to reach. So, if all you are looking for is good accommodation, good food and a lot many days of relaxation and quiet, Puerto Santiago is ideal for you.
Although not very touristy, the resort has several class accommodations. Your choice lies between a few excellent 4-star hotels and a good number of 3 and 2-star apartments. Puerto Santiago hotels and apartments are usually mid-rise structures, most not exceeding 5 or 6 storey. Fortunately, Puerto de Santiago’s hilly landscape allows most hotels to sit on elevated ground, which, if you have managed a sea view room, will present you with magnificent views of sunsets over La Gomera and the Los Gigantes cliffs.
Puerto Santiago beach boasts excellent facilities for windsurfing, water and jet-skiing and scuba diving. The dive sites near the Los Gigantes cliffs are superb, and if you are an amateur, expect professional help from Puerto Santiago’s diving school experts.
