Praia da Luz Holidays

Praia da Luz is a resort about 6kms from Lagos, Algarve, Portugal. It used to be an old fishing village, now modernized with holiday-villas. Trace the history of Praia da Luz to Roman Times; bath complexes and fishing tanks in Roman style found here provide sufficient proof. Fishing, Octopus potting and tourism are the main occupations at Praia da Luz. Praia da Luz is a characteristic white sand Algarve beach with rock zones. This beach meets the health and safety standards of the Blue Flag criteria. People from Portugal, Britain, Germany, Ireland, France and Spain visit Praia da Luz often.

Beach Town of Algarve – Praia da Luz

Praia da Luz is also the name of the beach after the village. It has a raised pedestrian promenade with benches and palm trees. Rocha Negra or Black Rock left by the dormant volcanoes of Monchique is to the west end of the beach and water sport centres flag the east end of the beach. Algarve Watersports and the Beach Hut centres offer a lot of excitement. This beach is within walking distance from the village and is very safe. Multicoloured sandstone cliffs create spectacular views. Cafes, bars and restaurants line this coast. A couple of modest discos offer night-entertainment in Praia da Luz.

There is an ATM on the main road towards Lagos from the Church for your financial transactions. Praia da Luz has a full-fledged functional post office and a medical centre called Luzdoc. The bus stop and taxi stand is near the village church. Most people speak English. The bars and restaurants accept sterling or travellers cheques. Remember to tip waiters and taxi drivers anywhere between 7-10% of the bill amount.
