The beach of Cancajos is sunny, wide and consists of rocky coves sheltering three small bays. Covered in black volcanic sands, it forms the playground for children and a relaxation destination for adults who like to work on their tan. The Atlantic waters hide wonderful underwater tunnels and deep coves swarming with an array of turtles, rays, barracudas and trumpet fish. Ten minutes from Playa de los Cancajos is Santa Cruz, the capital of La Palma. Santa Cruz’s town has a rich colonial history, well displayed in its many 16^th century architectures and great art collections of its museums. The bustling town square is the hub of Canarian markets, shops and tapas-bars and is a welcome change from one’s seaside sojourn.
