Who said Dubai holidays are no longer on the hit-list of globetrotters? The emirate may have undergone economic crisis, but the same fact translates well for tourists because of the ongoing holiday offers.
Check out ZipHolidays list of the hotspots worth checking out on your holidays to Dubai in winter 2010:
• Aquaventure Water Park, Atlantis, The Palm
Chill amid cool waters of the fun park at Atlantis, The Palm during your Dubai holidays 2010. Sprawling over 42 acres of land full of fun rides and different kinds of waterslides, this is one place one can check out during Dubai holidays. The most popular ride at Aquaventure is called the Leap of Faith that shoots you through 98ft transparent tunnel across a lagoon with sharks in it!
• Sand Skiing
Yes, this is fun too! The latest and one of the weirdest craze people indulge during Dubai holidays is sand skiing. You got to strap on that sand-board “surf” along the dunes of the desert – must for thrill seekers going to Dubai this winter.
• Desert Safari
This has been a popular activity people undertake on their holiday in Dubai. A four-wheel drive over the towering sand dunes of Dubai make for an adventurous activity that is hard to forget.
• Beaches and more beaches
Dubai holidays provide you the dual pleasure holidaying in the desert as well as on the beaches. The Jumeirah Beach is the main coast of Dubai flanked by mushrooming hotels and beach clubs. When it is freezing cold back home in the UK, you can have a blast by the beach, under the sun and clear blue skies in Dubai. Kite surfers should head off to the Wollongong Beach which is popularly called the Kite Beach. The fronds of the Palm Jumeirah are other (man-made) beaches to check out. Winters are definitely a great time to go for Dubai holidays.
• Dhow Dinner Cruise
The traditional wooden cruise boat that has been used for ages in Dubai is called the “dhow”. A romantic evening spent aboard one of these beautifully done up boats is an experience of a lifetime. Such a cruise along the Dubai Creek lasts for a couple of hours and takes you on a leisurely ride along famous landmarks of the emirate. The authentic Middle Eastern meal as part of the package completes it all – enjoyable more so on winter evenings with the slight dip in temperature.
• Shopping Spree
Dubai is indeed shoppers’ paradise with top brand showrooms of the world to mega malls and traditional gold and spice markets (called “souks”) offering delightful shopping experience. The world-famous (annual) Dubai Shopping Festival 2011 will be held in the months of January-February. So get ready with some empty suitcases and book a flight to this enchanting Middle Eastern city. The souks and shopping malls of Dubai, however, offer duty-free shopping throughout the year.
• Let’s go some sightseeing!
Be it the world’s tallest building Burj Dubai or the iconic Burj Al Arab – Dubai has many architectural wonders on offer. You could also go on one of the guided tours to Jumeirah Mosque which is the only mosque in the whole of Dubai that is open to non-Muslims. The guided tours take place on every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
• Camel Racing
Winters in Dubai mean you get to watch the exciting camel races for which the emirate is renowned. The various racing tracks scattered across Dubai become the sites for these races which are held every Thursday and Friday. In the free time between races, don’t forget to check out the open-to-air stalls selling beads, camel bells and rugs. The camel races take place between October and March at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.
• Party Time!
The nightlife circuit in Dubai is quite lively and happening. And winters are perfect for dancing away the nights on the foot-tapping music of some of the best DJs in the world.
• Soak in the Sun
Experience Dubai holidays sans the air-conditioning in winters. Take a lazy stroll along the streets, the beaches and the fantastic marina while soaking in the glory of the sun. You’ll just need a jacket in the evenings.
• Indoor Ski
If you want to remind yourself it is winter time, then head off to the state-of-the-art indoor ski at Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates.
• Desert Rhythms Festival
Dubai Festival City becomes the venue for the international festival of sights and sounds every winter. The festival usually takes place in the month of October.
• Dubai International Film Festival
Come December and Dubai comes alive with filmmakers from all over the world gathering for the renowned Dubai International Film Festival. Grab a seat this winter!
• International Jazz Festival
Dubai Marina’s Dubai Media City hosts the festival of music in February. Something worth checking out if you happen to be in the city during this part of the year.
• Sports
Dubai is famed for its horse races which begin taking the city by storm from November. The races culminate into a grand finale in March with the richest horse race in the world – the Dubai World Cup. November is the time for the Rugby Sevens in Dubai – be there to catch some action!
Dubai stands tall on the list of holidays in winter from the UK. Since the emirate is just seven hours away from London by air, you can easily plan Dubai holidays in winter 2010.
