Pick an Island for Your Greek Holiday 2011

Zipholidays News » Holidays 2011 News » Pick an Island for Your Greek Holiday 2011

Come to one of the numerous Greek Islands and make your holiday 2011 a memorable one. Or so we believe it will be. There has been a general notion among tourists that the Greek Islands are not the same as they were once upon a time. The argument doesn’t hold any ground as the fact is that out of the 150 islands that have been inhabited, not more than 30 ever get overcrowded. Even the busier parts of Greek Islands have an escape route to some secluded spot where you can be one with yourself and share some wonderful moments with loved ones.

Zip Holidays presents a quick list for you to choose the Greek Island for your holidays in 2011. Please note that the selection is not exhaustive and only mentions some of the best Greek Islands, not in order either.

Santorini
An extinct volcano surrounded by sparkling waters of the sea is what defines Santorini. One of the most beautiful and oft-photographed islands could be your destination for 2011 holidays.

Symi
Reliving the classical Greece is not an impossibility if you plan to base your 2011 Greece holidays in Symi. The narrow harbour gives you an amphitheatre like feel when you are floating amidst traditional houses rising all around you.

Mykonos
Mykonos is the place to be for 2011 holidays if you’re a party animal! With the sunset, the island takes on a different hue altogether – its narrow streets full of people up for celebration.

Famakonisi
The best uninhabited Greek island to visit for 2011 holidays. Famakonisi is the place where young Julius Caesar was held hostage by pirates for a year, and he later retaliated by killing every single living being on the island! No wonder no ferries stop here, but you can go on board a yacht from Gaidaros or Arki – and remember to take your own supplies.

Tilos
A great variety of animal and bird species all year round make Tilos a must-visit for 2011 holidays in case you are a wildlife lover. A Greek island you’ll never forget afterwards.

Corfu
Did you know Corfu is a great place for holiday reading? For 2011 holidays in Corfu, you can think of staying at the very house in Kalami where Prospero’s Cell was written by Lawrence Durrell. And if you’re finished with it, then move on to his brother Gerald’s My Family and Other Animals followed by The Colossus of Marousi by Henry Miller and Miller-Durrell letters. Often speaking of the same people and places, the stories in all these texts are remarkably different and even contradictory at places. A unique way indeed, to spend your holiday 2011.

Nas
Get transported to the world of yore at Nas with its magical ancient worshipping places. Other offbeat activities for 2011 holidays include discovering the nascent beauty of nature, and lying lazily on the seabed in the bay.

Skyros
Get to Skyros for some new age leisure and fun options. We bet if you do go to Skyros for your holiday in 2011, you are bound to fall in love with the place.

Gavdos
Gavdos is the southernmost European island, and the best part still mostly undiscovered. Sleep on some of the best beaches in the entire Mediterranean or indulge in some painting to gratify the artist in you. With local Greek population of just 40 and only a small number of tourists, you are bound to attain bliss here for your holidays in 2011. Word of caution – the island is not easy to access, and if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, it’s impossible to leave either!

Great food – anywhere, everywhere!
And if by chance you’re a foodie, you’d be spoilt for choice in Greece albeit simply cooked fresh food. The Icarus wine is famous the world over and regularly wins international awards. The best of the lot when it comes to drinks is the Cretan raki. So do not miss the gastronomic delights on offer for holiday 2011 – wherever you are in the Greek Islands that is.
