Holidays 2011 in the Netherlands
The Kröller-Müller Museum in Arnhem is a unique experience as the modern art gallery is part of the sprawling Hoge Veluwe National Park. The collection at the museum is quite alluring which includes works of Van Gogh, Picasso and Seurat among other modern and contemporary artists. The sculpture garden here is the biggest of its kind in the whole of Europe and has on display artworks by Serra, Rodin, Oldenburg and Hepworth to name a few.

Holidays 2011 in Denmark
Elsinore houses the incredible Louisiana Museum of Modern Art which in turn has a good collection of artworks. The beautiful harmony between art and building makes one have a view of the art from a different angle altogether. The adjacent park is a great place to have a picnic while taking in views over the Oresund, right up to Sweden on a clear day. The children’s wing is a nice place for kids to keep them from getting bored while adults enjoy the art – they can create their own little masterpieces here.

2011 Holidays in Japan
Tokyo’s Bridgestone Museum of Art is one of the coolest private art museums in the city. Incidentally this museum was founded by the president of the famous Bridgestone Tyres. The collection of artworks by French impressionists is simply good. While the Japanese section with art dating from the Meiji period further on to present day is nice too – actually these are Japanese paintings in western style. Quite interesting pastime in Tokyo as the museum is not very big with only ten rooms that take around an hour to stroll through. The Georgette Tearoom is a little expensive yet tasteful diversion here.

2011 Holidays in Germany
An aesthetically imagined building and decor put on display some of the most intriguing modern artworks. Without any gift shops or cafe, this museum gives plenty of space and opportunity for some inward reflection. The history of the place is no less interesting with the site being that of a bombed church.

Holidays 2011 to Spain
If you love abstract painting and sculpture, then head off to the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca. The building itself is a work of art and houses exhibitions of world artists from time to time. One can gorge on the works of some of the best modern artists from Spain.

Holidays 2011 to Italy
Slightly off the centre of activity in Milan, the Triennale Design Museum in Castello Sforzesco is an interesting museum of modern applied arts. A number of temporary exhibitions take place all the time, so one gets a good dose of art any time of the year.

Turkey Holidays for 2011
Right besides the Bosphorus is the Istanbul Modern offering spectacular views of the Galata Bridge and the old city. The museum traces the history of modern Turkish art on its walls. Temporary exhibitions are quite a regular feature here. Admission is free on Thursdays.

USA Holidays in 2011
Come to New York this year and have the Dia Art Foundation art gallery on your Places to Visit list. This is modern art lover’s paradise – the displays sprawl over a grand scale with each gallery dedicated to a single artist. On a trip down here, one could wind up the day with a lazy walk up the Hudson River and meal in Beacon.
