We have been seeing the world going green in every way over recent months. So much so that now you have the option of enjoying your holidays without leaving a big carbon footprint behind. Here are some recently launched green holiday initiatives to choose from in 2011.
Hydrogen Bus – Canada
Winter Olympics 2011 brought in hydrogen-run buses in Canadian city Vancouver. These buses take you on a city tour where you can enjoy skiing at Whistler resort as well as other entertaining events. The buses move around in silence and with zero emissions. The electric trolley buses are another option to try for checking out the largest mountain bike park in the world, here at Whistler.
Boom Festival – Portugal
Boom Festival is an open-air event that takes place in Portugal and includes an array of events such as music concerts, theatre performances, film showcases, and even balloon circus. On the green front, Boom Festival started off with using waste vegetable oil for generators way back in 2008 and in 2011, it will be bringing in windmills and solar panels. The festival stalls and other things will be built from eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, straw and wood. Moreover, Madrid and Lisbon airports will also run a Boom Bus for the event.
Crowne Plaza Hotel – Copenhagen
The “cycle for your supper” programme at Crowne Plaza Hotel is a unique way to reduce carbon footprint. There are two bicycles in the gym that are connected with generators and to an iPhone that monitors the amount of power generated. If you produce 10 watt hours then you get a hearty meal worth around 30 Pounds in the restaurant/bar of the hotel. Since the launch of this unique dinner idea, over 300 people have sweated for their food. A great way to stay fit and help the environment in 2011.
Solon City Tour Cruise – Berlin
The solar-powered ship takes one along the beautiful waterways of Berlin. The Sunday morning jazz brunches are good if you happen to be here in summer. The city tours and cruise trips are not to be missed if you are planning a Berlin holiday in 2011.
The Lobster Box Restaurant – Canada
The portable restaurant that is powered by the sun’s energy is shaped like a shipping container. Located in Montreal, the Lobster Box Restaurant transforms into a kitchen in mere 15 minutes. Features include a wood-fired pizza oven. The eco-friendly floor made out of recycled tyres, this pop-up restaurant specializes in lobster rolls and lobster pizza.
