Moraira Holidays

Moraira is a small coastal town part of Teulada. It is nestled between Denia, Calpe and Altea. It lies in the Marina Alta district lying 80 km north of the city of Alicante and 100 km south of Valencia. It is one of the most unspoilt resorts on the Costa Blanca. This old fishing town has the Mediterranean Sea stretched out at its feet and a beautiful mountain range covering its back. The average temperature is around 18 degrees.

The economy of Moraira is built around tourism. Moraira has 8 kms of beautiful coastline backed by mountains, and a large vineyard covering seven square kilometres. The town has a population of 9500 with a large number of expats. Moraira is a popular destination of affluent retirees. The majority of visitors to Moraira are Dutch, German French, Spanish and English.
Moraira was a fishing village. Even today fishermen go out in the early morning hours to fish. The catch is then auctioned at the traditional fish market which is one of the most popular fishing markets in the Costa Blanca region.
As the original fishermen village has dwindled through the years, the Teulada council passed laws protecting the abundant pine trees and limited the height of buildings. The council also built villas to blend into the natural surroundings. Moraira has attractive resorts surrounded by luxury villas with a variety of shops, colourful weekly markets, atmospheric old town, and its waterfront restaurants and bars.
Moraira is famous for the Muscatel grapes which are used in wine making. The Moraira Club Nautico is one of the main nautical attractions of the Valencian Community. This club was the first to achieve the Blue Flag distinction for cleanest shorelines in Europe.
