Mellieha Bay Attractions and Activities

The Mellieha village is around a kilometre inland from the beach. The village is located on a steep hill and there are many hotels and restaurants here. Apart from the beach there are quite a few things of tourist interest in Mellieha Bay. Mellieha Bay has some attractive historical buildings and a Baroque church of 19th century in village centre. Anchor Bay houses the Popeye Village that would be interesting to children. Mellieha Bay conducts an annual festival that begins on 8th of September and includes many concerts, folk singing, religious parade and fireworks. There are regular ferries and bus services to nearby resorts of Bugibba, Valletta city, island of Gozo etc. and these are ideal for a day out.

Lovely, shallow and clean waters of Mellieha Bay are very safe for kids and swimmers. The beach has lifeguards and rescue teams ready for tourist assistance. Mellieha Bay beach has many restaurants and kiosks that sell exotic fruit salads, ice creams, fresh fruits, iced drinks etc. Tourists can hire beach umbrellas and sunbeds to relax and unwind under the sun. Alternately, they can explore the village of Mellieha Bay which surprisingly has many useful shops that sell many interesting things like lace etc.
Tourists who want to spend a quiet afternoon can head to the Mellieha church, away from all holiday turmoil or pay a visit to the Parish Church complex which has many a medieval cathedrals worth attention. The painting of Madonna and Child in the Mellieha Sanctuary Cave is a piece of medieval art of interest to tourists.
