Getting Around in Mauritius
Travellers don’t have too much to worry when it comes to getting around during their Mauritius holidays, to local and tourist attractions. Taxis can be hired for full-day tour of sights of the island for around Rs 1500-2500 (30 to 50 pound sterling). Negotiation is the key to ensure you don’t get ripped, so be prepared to haggle a bit. For long distances, travellers can opt for a bus service as they are comparatively cheaper. Guests can call the National Transport Authority (202 2800) or get help from the friendly locals to find out the best routes and services, to ensure not to get lost on their Mauritius holidays.
The easiest way to get around on your holidays to Mauritius is to hire a
car. Prices aren’t low but you may negotiate a discount if renting the
car for a week or more. Travellers may find it hard to take a road-trip
on their Mauritius holidays as the roads can be pot-holed but the
bigger concern is Mauritian drivers and buses, known for speeding and
over-taking. Hitchhiking is not recommended on your holidays to Mauritius
as it comes with a potential risk like most other countries in the
world.
