Being situated on the Gulf of Mexico, Marco Island is known for its beaches. The crystal white sand of the Tigertail beach is a transcendental experience indeed. But you must not limit yourself to this beach alone. There are regular boat trips organised from Marco Island to neighbouring beaches of other islands in the vicinity, like the Coconut Island. In fact, Marco Island is known for its well connected inland waterways. You can spot some rare species of Dolphins, Peculians and other aquatic animals in this region.
And if you want to experience some more of the rich flora and fauna of Marco Island, there are plenty of options available. One of them is the Briggs Memorial Nature Centre. Another wildlife reserve in the area is the Rookery Bay’s National Estaurine Research Reserve. But the best of the lot is the Everglades National park. You can enjoy an educational wildlife tour of the region or opt to follow some breathtaking trails here.
Now, considering that Marco Island is known for its beaches, how can fishing and water sports be far behind. In fact, fishing goes back a long way back when Marco island used to be known to anglers only. The clear blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico also keep enticing you take a dip. The warm, tropical temperature is perfect for you to indulge in diving, snorkelling, wind surfing, boating, island excursions and sailing. There is also the colony of Manatee in Everglades. Manatee is residence of some of the most unusual creatures on this earth. It is sure a thrilling experience to get up, close and personal with the amusing wildlife.
