Malta Getting there and around

Malta is well-connected with rest of the world. As it is a member of the Schengen Agreement, tourists of EU countries and Britain can enter Malta by showing any officially approved ID card, and a visa is not required. The international airport in Luqa on the island connects Malta with rest of the world. Air Malta, national carrier of Malta, runs regular flights to many European, North African, and Middle Eastern cities. EasyJet also offers flights from UK including daily flights from Gatwick.

Malta is also connected by sea with other destinations. There are frequent fast ferries to the Sicilian ports of Catania and Pozzallo. Though smaller ships take twice the time a large passenger ship takes, their fares are lot cheaper. Luxury yachts and cruises from Salerno, Rome, Palermo, Genoa, and Tunis stop at Malta.

The charming antiquated public bus system is one of the attractions of Malta. It consists of 1950s-era buses decorated with chintz and icons of every saint in the Bible. Fares are cheap and buses are easily available. Taxis in Malta are also a convenient way to go around. While white taxis can be picked up off the street, the "black cab" taxis are exclusive for traveling from and to airport.  The other islands in and around Malta, such as Gozo and Comino, are connected by regular ferry services. Renting a bicycle is popular in Malta and a good way to explore the attractions.
