Luxor is served by the Luxor International Airport, located east of Luxor, 6 kms from the city. Luxor is one of Egypt’s most thriving tourist destinations and hosts countless visitors every year. The airport is built to accommodate approximately 8 million people and serve passenger airlines from different corners of the world.
From the United Kingdom, the Thomas Cook, Thomson and Monarch Airlines have weekly flights scheduled from London-Gatwick and Manchester, including flights from Birmingham (Thomson air), to Luxor. EgyptAir and EgyptAir Express domestic airlines serve flights to Luxor from Aswan, Abu Simbel, Cairo, Sharm el-Sheikh, and Alexandria. EgyptAir also connects Heathrow (London), Rome, Charles de Gaulle (Paris), Madrid and Barcelona (Spain), Milan (Italy), and Kuwait to Luxor.
The East and West Banks of Luxor are connected by a bridge. Although taxis and local bus services are available, local ferries are still largely used by Egyptians and frequently by tourists. From Luxor, morning and sleeper trains run all day along the Nile connecting Luxor to Cairo, Aswan, and other major destinations.
