Places to Visit in Lhaviyani Atoll
There are plenty of beautiful and exotic dive sites in the Lhaviyani Atoll. The Fahigiri Reef, which is situated on easternmost tip of the Fehigili channel, is one of the most famous dive sites in the entire world. This reef is home to many exotic breeds of fish. Some of these fish breeds include the squirrel fish, soldierfish and the harlequin sweetlips. There are many guided safaris which are carried on under the water. During these safaris, it is possible to also come across large tuna fish and grey reef sharks. Barracudas and trevally can also often be spotted in these under water excursions in the Lhaviyani Atoll. The diving sessions are planned in a manner that both novices and expert divers are able to dive in with relative ease. There is high visibility under these clear waters. Visibility remains for about 25 feet under the tranquil waters in the Lhaviyani Atoll, whereas divers are taken only 20 feet under the water.
If you are interested in drift diving, at the south of the Kanuhaara Channel, lays the Kanuharaa Kandu which offers some exquisite experiences in diving. Since the tidal currents in these parts are strong and flow inwards, towards the Lhaviyani Atoll, these diving areas are suitable only for the more experienced and trained divers. In this channel, you can find barracudas, tuna, large ray fish and jackfish.
Another cavernous and beautiful dive spot in the Lhaviyani Atoll is the Fushifaru Thila. This lies to the east of the Fushifari Isle and is 30 meters wide. Experienced divers dive in this part of the Lhaviyani Atoll. This channel is home to manta, snappers and the Napoleon wrasse, all exotic fish.
Lhaviyani Atoll is famous for the exotic marine species which are usually only seen in this part of the world. Some of the other great places for diving in the Lhaviyani Atoll, are Narcola Giri, Fushifaru kandu, Hinnavaru Kandu, Olhukolhu Faru, Fushifaru Firi, Dhighdhoo Faru, Aligau and the Kuredu Ocean Reef.
