Las Palmas Attractions and Activities

Within Las Palmas’ modern towns and around its city square, there are also large numbers of museums, cathedrals, and churches that make for interesting day-trips. Of these, special mention should be made of the Museo Canario, the Atlantic Center of Modern Art, Castillo de la Luz, The House of Christopher Columbus, Santa Ana Cathedral, Catedral de Arucas, Botanical Garden in Arucas, and the natural sights of Caldera de Bandama rising to a height of 1,870 ft at its rim. The archeological sites of Santa Brígida are also well worth a visit.

Las Palmas has a couple of beautiful sandy beaches: the Playa de las Canteras, which is the most popular tourist resort in Las Palmas, and the Playa de las Alcaravaneres, the second largest beach in Gran Canaria. Both beaches are flanked by a cluster of swanky to budget accommodations, restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs, nightclubs, shops and market places. The Atlantic waters are mild and fantastic for water sports like swimming, snorkeling, diving, fishing, sailing, canoeing, and yachting.
