Lanzarote has wonderful sandy beaches. The Atlantic is calm in these parts and great for swimming and other sports. Lanzarote holidays offer superb facilities for water sports like kite sailing, windsurfing, parasailing, fishing, scuba diving and glass-bottom boat rides. Visitors can also go for jeep and camel safaris across Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape, or go hiking and biking along the mountain and forest trails.
Some of the best beaches in Lanzarote can be found at Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen, and also Matagorda and Playa de los Pocillos resorts. The island’s capital Arrecife, has few very good beaches too. The beaches at Papagayo, located close to Playa Blanca, are unspoiled and wilder, usually for visitors who like to avoid crowds.
Lanzarote beaches are the center of tourist activities on the island. There are countless hotels, apartments, villas and inns available at expensive to budget prices. Many Canarian tapas-bars, local and international restaurants, pubs, bars, cafeterias, and small food stalls can also be found along the beach roads and town centers.
Lanzarotes biggest and most popular resort is the Puerto del Carmen. Puerto del Carmen is also the liveliest in Lanzarote, with its varied and animated nightlife. Playa de los Porcillos and Matagorda are the quieter resorts and nice when one wants to spend quality time with family. Playa Blanca attracts a large number of up-market vacationers and has some of Lanzarote’s most expensive hotels and apartments. The capital city of Arrecife is small, and attracts far less number of tourists then does the beach resorts of Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen, but a natural harbor and vibrant lifestyle makes it a great stopover destination before heading to the more popular beach resorts.
