The local wine in La Gomera is distinctive and a part of Gomeran cuisine. Cuisine specialties also include local cheese snack or ‘tapa’, roasted pork or goat meat, almogrote, a type of cheese spread and local favorite, and miel de palma or palm tree extract. This humble spread is complimented by a wider and more diverse Canarian cuisine including Canarian potatoes, Mojo sauce, and Bienmesab or almond cream, served with a range of other mainland Spanish food and Spanish beer.
La Gomera has some nice restaurants and cafes, and although they are not fancy, serve extremely tasty Spanish food. Special mention should be made of Casa Conchita’s traditional Canarian cuisine, Cafe Abraxas’ home-made snacks, cakes and waffles, Kaffee und Kuchen’s surprisingly good German-Gomeran snacks and main course, La Crema’s exquisite home-made Italian ice-creams, and Junonia’s authentic Gomeran dishes.
There are also a couple of good stops in the Garanojay National Park, and a bite of Tapa and some cooling cocktail before continuing your hike, is not such a bad idea.
