Kalutara beach and town house a good selection of restaurants, cafes, food stalls and bars. Hotel restaurants serve multi-cuisine lunches and dinners. Most bars also provide Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese and English mini-meals. Snacks and beverages are also available at bars, including fruit juices, punches, cool drinks, and cocktails. The beach has a number of waterfront cafes that serve tea, coffee, refreshments, baked and fried snacks, confectionaries and ice-cream. After sundown, these beachside bars and cafes are great places to spend the evenings.

Kalutara’s unique dark purple colored fruit, mangosteen, is a local specialty. Coconut, guava and mangoes are also immensely popular. Coconut especially, forms a part of the traditional cuisine and several Sri Lankan dishes will be served with shredded, diced or grated coconut. The local alcoholic drink ‘arrack’, made from molasses and rice, features prominently in local bars and restaurants.
