Kalutara Attractions and Activities

Kalutara beach is scenic and the sea here is safe for swimming. The Kalutara lagoon is haven for water sport fans. Ample scope for snorkeling, diving, sailing, boat rides and recreational fishing is provided here. Quieter beaches like the Wadduwa are located in the outskirts of Kalutara. These beaches are generally great for many quiet hours and complete relaxation.

There are several interesting places to see in and around Kalutara. In Kalutara, the Gangatilaka Vihara Buddhist shrine is the most popular tourist attraction. The town also has a Catholic Church and Muslim mosque, including Buddhist and Hindu temples. For a little ethnic flavor, the local bazaars can be explored any day. Colombo and the popular beach resorts like Galle, Bentota, and Beruwela can be visited from Kalutara. These places house a wealth of historic and cultural sights that are worth exploring.
