Guia Holidays

You can have holidays to Guia in just ten minutes drive from Albufeira, the Algarve's most popular and well-known resort. Guia holidays are unusual because the place is the hub of interesting villas which include Sir Cliff Richard's villa and vineyard. Over the past thirty years, over a score of restaurants have emerged offering everything from the locally discovered chicken piri-piri to a gourmet French menu. Come for Guia holidays for some lavish Portuguese experience.

One of the attractions of Guia holidays is the nearby Zoomarine theme park which is especially appealing to children. Here, you also get to have a swim with the dolphins during your Guia holidays. The Zoomarine features lots of educational activities along with the spectacle of fearsome sharks and alligators.

There is a good selection of villas in the Guia area. Holidays in Guia mean you’re spending time in a picturesque village that dates back to Roman times, with great views over the countryside, yet close to some of the most wonderful beaches of the region, such as Gale and Castelo. Guia holidays therefore offer a generous dose of history amidst peace and tranquillity.

Guia is located near the Highway No.125, only 6 km from Albufeira. This village was established during Roman times and was called Alfontes by the Arabs, meaning beyond the water spring. Guia is one of the county’s three parishes on the Algarve coastline, occupying an area of 27 square km. The village origins are difficult to determine, but oral tradition tells that the site of the chapel of Nossa Sr da Guia is where the Virgin Mary once appeared. Consequently, the name Guia has a religious origin relating to the existence of the chapel which was built prior to sixteenth century. The vow to the Lady of Guia is ancient and at one time drew pilgrims from all over the Algarve to make their promises to the Virgin Mary, which according to tradition gave rise to the annual Guia Fair held from October 7 to 9, in the chapel surroundings. Timing your Guia holidays with this fair can ensure some unforgettable moments.
