The south coast of Gran Canaria, always sunny and cheerful in comparison to the somber and clouded north coast, sees the most number of tourists. South coastal waters are shallow and temperatures retain likeable warmth of 22°C in most months of the year. Bright sunshine, balmy sea breeze and convenient facilities offered by the resorts make the south coast extremely popular and crowded.
Along Gran Canaria’s south coast lies the 8km golden sandy beach, housing two of the best resorts in the whole of Canaries…the Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas beach resorts. Both resorts are backed by exquisite hotels and par excellence apartment complexes, and deliver international amenities, comfort and service that is unrivalled by any of the other Canarian resorts.
The Maspalomas area has some amazing sand dunes and secluded spots that make it the favorite haunt of sun-bathers and nudists alike. Quiet and relaxing, it is a fitting contrast to the more cheerful and lively Playa del Ingles, which is frequented mostly by British holidaymakers. With a bevy of English bars and pubs, and some quaint al fresco food joints and indoor restaurants serving European cuisines, Playa del Ingles is the promise of great entertainment.
Further west from Playa del Ingles is the Puerto Rico resort. An imported beach complimented by quality water sport facilities, Puerto Rico resort is Gran Canaria’s party hub. A more relaxing alternative is the Playa del Cura and San Agustin resorts, while the bustling resort of Las Palmas brings frolic right back with its crowd of Canarian restaurants, duty free shops, and interesting architecture.
