Galle holidays are concentrated on the beach of Unawatuna Bay, located a few minutes from Galle town. The Unawatuna beach is great for swimming and quiet hours by the sea. The Hikkaduwa beach is a vast stretch of golden sand with excellent water sport facilities, although surfing is best enjoyed at the Ahangama beach. Both Hikkaduwa and Ahangama offer wonderful accommodation and dining options. Galle’s nightlife is lively, yet hushed and mostly confined to resort entertainment. 

Galle acts as a base from where the regions tea plantations, paddy fields and verdant hills can be explored. Galle holiday excursions include the Bentota turtle hatchery, Rawana Ella falls, Yala National Park, and Koggala Lake. Around Galle’s old town, there are plenty of traditional shops selling gem-cuttings and jewelry, fabrics, handicrafts, woodcarvings and art pieces. Should you wish to pick up souvenirs for family and friends, the old town market is the place to be.
