Fuencaliente Hotels

The hot spring Fuente Santa, from which the town draws its name, was lost to a volcanic eruption in the 18th century. Until a few years past, Fuencaliente retained its original name, but was changed to Los Canarios by the town’s people who felt the name had no relevancy any longer. Los Canarios is the capital of the province of Fuencaliente, but today, the entire area is referred to as Los Canarios.

Los Canarios is the epicenter of tourism in Fuencaliente. Although there are several modern hotels, beautiful apartments, villas and cottage accommodations available, the main town center is still largely traditional Canarian in hospitality and livelihood. Pretty town squares are crowded by lines of small shops and markets selling local handicrafts and food items, and restaurants and bars serving traditional Canarian cuisines and the Bodegas wine. Tourists will also come across a few very good upscale restaurants offering an international foods menu, including Spanish mainland dishes and drinks, and Canarian fish and meat favorites.

Los Canarios has something to suit all travelers. The beach is the center of tourist activity and there are a number of hotels and apartments offering expensive to low-priced amenities. Most large hotels offer sport facilities like scuba-diving, paragliding and horse-riding, sun-beds for the beach, and organized tours of the island, including hiking in La Palma’s Taburiente Caldera National Park.  Around Fuencaliente’s volcanic craters and the surrounding pine forests, there are also some pretty good hike trails, and visitors are provided with ample opportunities for guided explorations.
