Fuencaliente Holidays

Fuencaliente is located on the southern coast of La Palma, in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The name ‘Fuencaliente’ means ‘hot spring’ or ‘warm fountain’ and owes its origin to the Fuente Santa, a spring located near the coastline that was believed to have medicinal powers, but was lost to lava flow in the 1700s.

Fuencaliente is famous as the site of 7 volcanoes. The most recent volcanic activity was the Teneguia eruption in 1971 that lasted 24 days, and over which, the lava flowed to several hectares increasing the island’s size. The craters of Teneguia and San Antonia are among the most frequented sites in Fuencaliente.

Around the barren volcanic craters lies a thick pine forest popular with hikers and bird-watchers, lush banana plantations and vineyards, and farther down is an unusual volcanic beach overlooking a blue Atlantic.
