Our Review of Florence...

Florence is one of the oldest cities in the world, established in the first century B.C. The place however was inhabited by people prior to that time and as early as fifth century B.C. During the reign of Julius Caesar, Florence was made into a colony. Like other Roman cities, Florence was built as a planned city at the confluence of two streams.

The city plunged into oblivion after the fall of Roman Empire and till its emergence as an important arts centre from 11th century onwards. Few centuries later, Florence became a powerful centre and most of it has been credited to the Medici Family. They patronised art and culture at a time when Dark Age was fading in the light of Renaissance. It is partly due to their support that some of the greatest works of art were produced. Painting, sculpture, architecture and politics received major attention during this period.
