Egypt Getting there and around

Egypt's transportation is centred on Cairo and its rail service runs from Alexandria to Aswan. For overnight trains, it is suggested to book in advance through your travel agent. Egypt's road network spans across 21,000 miles, covering the Nile valley and delta, the coasts of Mediterranean and Red Seas, and the Sinai. Its domestic air service is Egypt Air and reaches all major tourist destinations from Cairo. Even though it is the fastest way to get around, it is advisable to opt for other alternatives like buses, trains and boats, and even camels, horses and donkeys where possible for shorter journeys. You can also hire taxis that regularly shuttle between cities and towns, although Toyota minibuses are in vogue nowadays and so you can use them during Egypt holidays. Car hire is available through local and international companies and it has been legalised that people of and above 25 only are allowed to drive.
