Drakensberg Getting there and around

South Africa is served by 3 international airports: the O.R. Tambo International outside Johannesburg, Durban International and Cape Town International Airports. Flights from most countries fly to South Africa; as many as 70 international carriers carry daily and weekly flights to and from South Africa.

The O.R. Tambo International receives the most number of direct international flights and is considered the gateway to South Africa, although if you are traveling to Durban Town, taking direct flights to Durban International is easier. There are also plenty of smaller airports to which you can take charter or cross-border flights from other states in Africa.

The N3 national highway going to Durban from Pretoria or Johannesburg will easily take you to the Central Berg region. N3 is a double lane national road in excellent condition. But the road gets narrow in the Berg region and has plenty of sharp bends to discourage speeding. To visit most areas of interest, a normal Saloon car will do.
