Crystal River Attractions and Activities

Apart from the interaction with the Manatees, Crystal River is also famous for the ample fishing grounds it provides. Fishing has always been a major attraction for tourists in Crystal River. The saltwater fishing of the Crystal River region is considered the best. Boats often sail towards the Gulf of Mexico where there is large number of species of fish. However, those who are not too keen on sailing the short run to Gulf Mexico, can find an abundance of game closer to the shores of Crystal River.

Though Crystal Water is essentially a saltwater river, there is also the Withlacoochee River nearby that is of fresh water. For the adventurous, there is a long canoe trail that runs from Crystal Rater to the Withlacoochee River. The entire trail may take about a week to explore. Many enthusiasts take this trail for a week of lazy drifting. Of course the scenic beauty that surrounds the trail is always an added advantage.

There are many other things that one could do while at Crystal River. The city is home to a heritage village where one can get transported back in time. The heritage village offers local curios and other interesting things for shoppers. There are plenty of restaurants in Crystal Water, most of which serve authentic local cuisine based on a staple of sea food. The archeological bodies of the county have set up shops that sell authentic antique pieces to art connoisseurs.

There are plenty of bed and breakfast accommodations along with hotels, resorts and inns that can accommodate the winter rush to Crystal River. Winters are the best time to visit the city, since the temperature is warmer than surrounding areas and the population of manatees suddenly rises. In the winter, there is also an abundance of local produce and sea food, making the visit an interesting culinary experience.
