Costa Rica is a place where you can never get bored. There are so many things gifted by the nature to this country that it will take months, even years for you to discover these bounties of nature.
The golden chapters in the history of Costa Rica appeared only after 19th century. Costa Rica was inhabited by Latin Americans prior to its discovery in 1502. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus and soon occupied by the Spanish settlers. One can, to a fair degree, say that colonialism strengthened the diversity that is so much predominant here.
Till 19th century, Costa Rica served as a colony of Spain, which as a matter of fact was a major disappointment for Spaniards. The location of Costa Rica prevented the imperial power to have an effective system of managing its resources. During colonial times, the country under-performed due to lesser interventions and was considered as a poor and miserable colony. On Costa Rica holidays you will really be surprised as how well they have managed to emerge as a developing country.
In 1821 the colonial rule came to an end and Costa Rica joined the federation of Latin American states. It withdrew from the federation in 1838 and proclaimed its sovereignty. From late 19th to mid 20th century, the country did well except during the periods of violence and civil war. However, in the last 50 years the country has had a stable political machinery to aid its progress and development.
