Ciutadella Holidays

Ciutadella is Spanish for ‘Citadel’. It is a municipal town situated on the west coast of Menorca. Ciutadella is a historic town and was once the Moorish capital. A trip to Ciutadella can be very rewarding and Menorcan holidays can be said to be incomplete without a visit to this old city.

Ciutadella is the religious capital of Menorca and narrow streets of the bygone era with great Menorcan architecture still captivate and charm tourists and make for a lesson in Minorcan history. Ciutadella can be reached by daily bus service from the many neighboring or close by resorts and welcomes scores of day trippers. The British moved the capital to Mahon but with the Bishop refusing to shift, Ciutadella remained the religious centre and still maintains its authentic character.

Spanish people love to celebrate the ‘Fiesta de San Juan’ at the end of June each year. The statue of the rearing stallion at the entrance of the city represents the event. Tourists can also join the Festival of Saint John, the patron saint, if one happens to be in Ciutadella on 23rd and 24th of June each year.
