Cefalu is a commune and city located in the Palermo province of northern Sicily. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Sicily. The word Cefalu literally means “head” and it probably gets its name from the huge rock which rises above the city and has an ancient Greek castle on its peak. The city is famous for its sublime tranquillity and religious inspiration. There is a distinct aroma of ancient history which engulfs the city and immerses it in a strange air of mystery. The beach, the mountains and the cathedrals exuding picturesque grandeur, all make Cefalu an ideal tourist destination.
Mysterious Cefalu
Cefalu is a beach city in Palermo, nestled safely in the shadows of a steep mountain. It is located about 185 kms west of Messina and 75 kms east of the provincial capital. Cefalu is has an enormous wealth of Sicilian-Romanesque architecture, in the form of churches, cathedrals and monasteries. The ancient archaeological remains of the old city, situated on the mountain peek, gives a kind of mystery feel to the city of Cefalu. The museums present here also house some of these ancient remains. Blessed with a comfortable Mediterranean climate, Cefalu is frequented by tourists, all round the year.
General Etiquette in Cefalu
The etiquette in Cefalu is no different from the other European cities. A warm handshake is the ideal greeting gesture and tips are not customary unless you’re really impressed and want to extend a thankful greeting. English is spoken in most major resorts of Cefalu; however Italian and the Sicilian dialect are the main languages. Queuing however is not a general practice in Cefalu.
