Bracciano is a peaceful small town located away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities in Italy. The town does not fall within the regular tourist trail, but it is a beautiful place situated on a hill above a wonderful lake. The population of the town is about 16,000, located in the Lazio region of Central Italy.
The volcanic lake in Bracciano, known as Lago di Bracciano is highly popular with the visitors and is extensively used for sailing and other water activities. The key attraction of the area is the medieval castle called Castello Odescalchi. The castle attracts a large number of tourists every year, and also plays host to a variety of events throughout the year. One of the most famous weddings in recent years, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, took place at this castle in 2006.
The entire area of Bracciano is essentially medieval in character, making it a very romantic setting worth discovering for the tourists who are on the lookout for quiet and exotic locations. Traversing through the lanes of the town, you feel that you are in a place where time has simply refused to move forward. At the far end of Bracciano, there is a belvedere that offers a picturesque view of the lake, and the natural countryside marked with olive trees and woods. For the convenience of the visitors, there are benches where you can sit and spend a great time in a perfectly harmonious setting.
Piazza IV Novembre is the main square of Bracciano. It is a joyous experience to note the slow pace of the area, with the local population leading a quiet and pleasant life. For the assistance of tourists, there is an information kiosk located in one corner of the piazza. The place also has a local museum that goes by the name of Museo Civico.
