One of the finest Sri Lankan beaches, Bentota is blessed with fine sandy bays fringed by tropical palms, warm weather and beautiful romantic sunsets. There are different tour packages for the Bentota resorts, besides an excellent choice of posh hotels, moderate and budget accommodations.  The best hotels are located in the southern end of the island with its expanse of sandy beaches. The northern section of the beach, comprising of a bit of land, is known as ‘Paradise Island’ and divides the sea waters from the tranquil waters of the Bentota lagoon. The National Tourist Resort at the Bentota beach has an excellent shopping centre, a post office and a market. Plus, there are several good restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs.

 
The placid waters of the inland lagoon are ideal for many kind of water sports usually associated with beach resorts. Bentota beaches are excellent for swimming, diving, snorkeling and sailing. Holidayers can also try some of the adventurous sports like water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, banana boating and deep sea fishing. Leisurely boat excursions up the Bentota Ganga River offer great opportunities to observe the picturesque banks, wild birds and crocodiles. The must-see turtle hatchery is just 3kms from Bentota. Exploration of the 12th century ruins of the Galapata Vihara with its wall paintings, Buddha statues and rock carvings of the chronicle Mahavamsa are equally popular.

Although Bentota is Sri Lanka’s water sport hub, the comparative quietness of the Bentota beach belies the popularity of the resort.
