General Etiquette
Italian men do not prefer wearing shorts unless they are jogging. Women in general are freer in dressing up, with notable exception when they visit churches, where shoulders and legs should be covered.
Eating and drinking with arms or elbows on the table is not acceptable.
While toasting, it is considered polite to look into someone’s eyes when clinking the glasses. While travelling in a large crowd during the high season, it is advisable to be alert as pickpockets can pick the pockets and passport clean. The easiest way to travel is with traveller cheques, which are easier to replace than cash or credit cards if stolen. It is also advisable to keep a copy of the front page of passport, any tickets, traveller cheque serial numbers, and any other important information.
