The Abaco Islands, one of the most frequented tourist places in North America, lie in the northern region of the Bahamas. The Abaco Islands are a small archipelago made up of the islands Little Abaco and the Great Abaco. The other islands that are a part of this archipelago are Wood Cay, Man-o-War Cay, Lubbers Quarters Cay, Elbow Cay, Umbrella Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Castaway Cay, Moore's Island, Stranger's Cay, Walker's Cay, Great Guana Cay and Little Grand Cay. To make the administration of the Abaco Islands easier, the entire archipelago is divided into 31 districts. The major towns in the Abaco Islands are Hope Town, Coopers Town, Treasure Cay, Marsh Harbour and Cornishtown.

The Abaco Islands are famous for their natural beauty and can boast of some of the most beautiful and renowned coral reefs in the world. The Abaco Islands are also home to large plantations of the Bahamian Pine which is one of the oldest trees found in that part of the world. Though there is rapid development taking place in the Abaco Islands, local groups have been successful in preserving the environment and keeping much of it intact. Apart from these, the Abaco Islands are also known for the staghorn and elkhorn coral structures which are not found anywhere else in the world.

The Abaco Islands are known as the top of the Bahamas because of their strategic location. The 700 odd islands of Bahamas are scattered around near Florida and the Abaco Islands are clustered all the way from the West Palm Beach in Florida to the East of Delray Beach. Abaco Islands are famous for their boomerang shape and all the islands together stretch 130 miles in all.

The large number of tourists that the Abaco Islands attract every year has given rise to a thriving tourism industry. Today, the Abaco Islands are home to some of the best resorts in the world. Since Abaco Islands are the northernmost tip of the Bahamas, they are also the most visited and the resorts are well equipped to handle the large influx of tourists.

Abaco Islands are known for their boating and fishing expeditions. The Abaco Islands also offer spectacular diving sites throughout their many cays and isles. Since the Abaco Islands are full of solitary beaches and cays, it is perfect for those looking to escape the daily grind of city life. There are long stretches of sand, away from the crowds where one can relax. Even in the high season, you can find stretches of beach which are completely isolated.

The Abaco Islands are also frequented by boating lovers and yatchers who flock to the islands to enjoy their favorite sport. The neighboring Paradise Islands, Nassau and Freeport also send a lot of tourists looking for relaxation, to the Abaco Islands.
