Maldives has, in the past few years, grown to be a very popular tourist destination in the world. Maldives - Demography

According to an estimate, Maldives’ local population in 2007 was around 300,000 of which about 100,000 are immigrants, either working or settled illegally. Most of the immigrants are from Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh. Islam is the main religion though other religions are practised as well. Dhivehi is the main official language besides English, which is widely spoken as well.
